Game Drives

Experiencing the real African safari is what you can expect when staying at Toro Yaka. We offer morning and afternoon safaris in the beautiful Balule Nature Reserve. Along with a few other nature reserves in the region, Balule is situated right next to the Kruger National Park and enjoys the benefits of the open fence policy. This open policy allows us to see all kinds of wildlife. Game drives are done in open safari vehicles and you will be guided by an expert game ranger.

Bush Walks

There is no better way to get closer to nature than by going on a morning bush walk, where you will truly feel Africa’s heartbeat through your feet. These walks are focused on seeing and experiencing the smaller things in life. During the walk, you will have the opportunity to observe the roles that mammals, insects, reptiles and birds play in our ecosystems. The quiet is surreal and you’ll easily feel as though you are a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Birding

Birding is very rewarding in the Balule Game Reserve. The Reserve is home to over 250 different bird species, including Pel’s Fishing Owl, the Southern Ground Hornbill, the Lappet-Faced Vulture, the Martial Eagle, the Kori Bustard and the Saddle-Billed Stork. Over 80% of the country’s raptor species can be spotted in Balule!

You can do a lot of bird watching when simply sitting in our gardens or while lounging on the deck next to the pool. The lodge is frequented by birds of all kinds and an afternoon of bird watching is a peaceful way to relax. Some of the birds that frequent the lodge include francolins, cuckoos, kingfishers and sunbirds. The nights are filled with the sounds of elusive owls.

Massages

Nicole, the lodge owner, offers guests a number of soothing treatments. Her various massage treatments need to be booked in advance, so we advise you to make an enquiry when booking your stay at Toro Yaka. Aromatherapy, Swedish massage, Indian Head massage, Shiatsu, and reflexology are some of the relaxing treatments you can select. All of the treatments take some inspiration from the tranquil surrounding nature and are suitable for both women and men.

Yoga (coming soon)

Stretching tired muscles while practising ancient deep breathing techniques are just two aspects of yoga that makes practitioners feel so at ease at the end of a session.
